Couch 2 5K

I've always wanted to be a runner - to have that feeling of leaving everything behind, to use running as a de-stresser, to compete in a 5K. But, I always thought that I had to get down to a certain weight or a certain body shape before I could start running. And I didn't have the confidence to just go out and run, thinking that there was no way my body could complete more than 30 seconds of even light jogging.

Then I found the "Couch to 5K"

The program is designed to take a person who wouldn't ever run without something chasing them and in nine weeks have those same people running a 5K, or 3.1 miles. It uses the method of HIIT training - High Intensity Interval Training - to build up endurance and energy through the run; the program averages about 30 minutes three times a week for nine weeks.

Here is a sample of the first three weeks. As you can see, the program moves you forward each week, increasing the run time, and decreasing the walk time.

I have finished the first four weeks - and I love it! I have so much confidence after I get done, knowing that I am on the road to running a 5K in only 5 more weeks.

So, for those readers who have always wanted to run but never thought running was for them, this is for you! There is a Couch 5 5K app, but if you're like me and without the technology for that, you can also download free podcasts from Itunes!

I would love to hear if anyone else has completed the program, and if you start running, I would love to follow your journey with you!
